Valletta midfielder Roderick Briffa has been named MFA Footballer of the Year for season 2010/11. The announcement of the winner of the MFA player of the year accolade was made this evening during the association's awards ceremony at the Le Meridien St Julian's Hotel.

Briffa had been considered as the hot favourite to win the coveted MFA award after a brilliant season in which he played a key role in Valletta's Premier League title success.

The 29-year-old, one of four Valletta players in contention for the award, collected 55.34 points to finish ahead of team-mate Jonathan Caruana who came second in the contest on 46.42 points.

Gareth Sciberras, who has just joined Birkirkara from Marsaxlokk, was third on 38.99 points with Valletta duo Denni (34.11) and Gilbert Agius (28.14) fourth and fifth respectively.

Briffa succeeds Birkirkara midfielder Shaun Bajada as MFA footballer of the year.
