Tenor Joseph Calleja was yesterday presented with Exotique's first gold and platinum discs, an award the company launched in recognition of local talent and dedication.

In Joseph Calleja's case, the talent was international, said owner Grace Borg when presenting him with the two gold discs for having sold more than 1,500 copies of The Golden Voice and the Tenor Arias CD in Malta, and a platinum disc for having sold over 3,000 copies of the latter.

Joseph Calleja, fresh from his successful concert with Michael Bolton on Sunday, signed autographs on CD covers, booklets, programmes, photographs and T-shirts, anything that was brought to him by a queue of fans, including children.

Ms Borg said she had been waiting for months to find the right moment to be able to present the busy Joseph Calleja with the awards, an event that had been postponed.

Next in line was Ivan Grech of Winter Moods while other local artistes qualified for the discs, including Ira Losco and Etnika.

A double platinum disc would be awarded to the singer or band that sells 6,000 copies of a CD locally.
