Cameroon made it three wins out of three at the African Nations Cup after striker Samuel Eto'o steered the Group B winners to a 2-0 victory over Democratic Republic of Congo yesterday.

DR Congo joined Cameroon in the quarter-finals on goal difference despite the defeat, edging out Angola who beat Togo 3-2 in the night's other game in Cairo.

Cameroon, who had already qualified for the last eight, took a 31st minute lead with 25-metre pile-driver from Chelsea midfielder Geremi and Eto'o added their second two minutes later.

DR Congo had defender Gladys Bokese dismissed in the 72nd minute for kicking out at Cameroon substitute Achille Webo but his team held on to their runners-up place in the group.

Cameroon's reward is a quarter-final place against Group A runners-up Ivory Coast next Saturday. The Congolese take on host nation Egypt on Friday.

Angola fell one goal shy of a place in the quarter-finals despite overcoming Togo. It was heartbreakingly close for the Angolans, who squandered a host of chances against a side reduced to 10 men after just 30 minutes.

The loss was the third successive at the tournament for Togo, but, who like Angola, have the consolation of heading to the World Cup finals in Germany later this year.

Angola started the game with waves of attack and Flavio got the opening goal in the ninth minute.

But as they committed players forward, Angola were caught on the counter-attack and Mohamed Kader equalised in the 24th minute for Togo.

Flavio restored Angola's lead six minutes before the break that meant Angola went into the interval knowing they needed one more goal to qualify.

However, it was only four minutes from time that Angola went back into the lead, Maurito slamming home the winner from the edge of the area.

But in their haste to score a fourth goal, Angola repeatedly wasted chances with over-anxious efforts.
