A man caught on CCTV camera stealing goods from the doorstep of a charity shop has apologised and donated €50 to make amends.

In an unsigned letter received by the charity organisation Happy Paws, the man admitted his behaviour was “stupid and shameful”. Times of Malta highlighted the incident last week and carried CCTV footage of the theft.

Lino Mintoff, from Happy Paws, who had appealed for thieves to stop pilfering goods left by benefactors when the charity shop was closed, applauded the man’s gesture.

“If he is in need of help I am urging the man to contact me in confidence at the charity shop,” he said.
