Renal patient Chris Bartolo, who underwent a kidney transplant a week ago, is responding well and his organ donor has been released from hospital.

“The operation went really well. Chris and the donor are both doing fine. We are happy with Chris’s progress,” said Mr Bartolo’s former partner, Sarah Borg.

“It looks like the new kidney is responding well in the new body, however, it is still early stages.

“I have a strong feeling we are on the right track. We just have to keep on hoping as the first few months are the most important,” she said, adding that Mr Bartolo should be released from hospital in about two weeks’ time.
