The Cirkewwa Gozo ferry terminal is now fully operational and has been formally handed over to Gozo Channel, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said this morning.

Speaking at a press conference on site with Gozo Minister Anton Refalo, Mr Mizzi said the facility had cost €12m, of which 85 per cent has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Sections of the terminal have been in use since December.

Mr Mizzi noted delays in the project and said the new government had sought to conclude the project as quickly as possible.

The terminal features an extendible arm which enables passengers to embark and disembark directly from the ferries' passenger decks, as has been the case in Gozo for some two years.

The terminal also features an air-conditioned waiting area , an information desk, and offices for Gozo Channel and harbour officials. There is also a new marshalling area and 168 parking spaces as well as space for buses and coaches.
