Maltese composer Karl Fiorini has been selected as a finalist in the Alea III International Composition Competition that will be held in Boston on Saturday.

Mr Fiorini's trio composition Lamina is one of the six works, out of 229 submissions, selected.

The other finalists are Hee Yun Kim from the Republic of Korea (with his work Reversion is the Movement of Tao), Jorge Sancho Cebollero of Spain (Et Resurrexi), Joseph Sheehan from the USA (Dance Dance Revelation), Eric Marty of Canada (Buoyancy) and Basil Athanasiadis from Greece (This Leaf is Selected).

Mr Fiorini, 25, graduated in music composition from the University of Malta and will be furthering his studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.
