A cross-party group of MPs will host Daphne Caruana Galizia’s three sons at the Council of Europe on Monday, to discuss the context that paved the way for their mother's assassination.
The event, being hosted by Luxembourg MP Anne Brasseur (ALDE), Dutch MP Pieter Omtzigt (EPP) and German MP Frank Schwabe (SOC), is supported by Article 19, the Committee to Protect Journalists, Reporters Sans Frontières, the European Federation of Journalists, the Index on Censorship, the International News Safety Institute, the Association of European Journalists, the Polish Society of Journalists, Transparency International and the International Press Institute.
The Caruana Galizias will also discuss the most important strands of her investigative work and why the ongoing investigation into her assassination demanded close international scrutiny.

Ms Caruana Galizia was murdered in a car bomb on October 16, a few metres away from her home. Her death sent shockwaves around the world, raising concerns internationally about the rule of law and corruption.
In a statement the Council of Europe said: “Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination is a crime against all of us. It has serious consequences in at least five main areas of the Council of Europe’s work - human rights, corruption, money laundering, rule of law and protection of journalists.
“The crime and corruption Daphne Caruana Galizia uncovered and the investigation into her assassination demand the immediate and continuing attention of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, including through the appointment of a special rapporteur to shed light on the broader aspects surrounding the crime and to monitor the ongoing murder investigation.”
Article 19 head of Europe and Central Asia Katie Morris said that fighting corruption was a priority and its member states and institutions had to demonstrate this by ensuring that there was no impunity in this case.
"If not, they send a chilling message that those standing against corruption may be silenced."
MOTION BEFORE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT
Scottish parliamentarian James Dornan has presented a motion in the Scottish parliament calling for a full and open inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia three months ago.
In comments to Caruana Galizia's family on the occasion of the vigil organised by Reporters Without Borders, English PEN, the Committee to Protect Journalists, ARTICLE 19 and Index on Censorship, before the Malta High Commission offices in central London, Mr Dornan said:
“I completely condemn the brutal killing of Daphne Caruana Galizia and beseech Prime Minister Muscat to ensure that there is full and open inquiry into the circumstances surrounding this killing. The freedom to investigate, report and to speak about matters of importance to the public should be a human right denied to no one; no person should ever be harmed because of their occupation. I will be supporting the family of Daphne and as a member of the political international community I will be monitoring the situation closely; and I would urge others throughout the international community to do the same. This investigation has faced criticism up to this point due to the lack of transparency and this issue must be rectified immediately.”
