A man has been given a two-year jail term suspended for four years and fined Lm600 and his wife was placed on probation for two years after they admitted to insurance fraud.

Anthony Mc Kay, 37, and his 31-year-old wife Rachel pleaded guilty to filing a false police report and to insurance fraud in November 2004.

Mr Mc Kay also admitted to handling two stolen cars - a Peugeot and a Toyota - and tampering with the chassis number and registration plate of the Toyota.

On handing down judgment, Magistrate Lawrence Quintano noted that the two had filed an early guilty plea.

Police Inspector Stephen Mallia prosecuted.
