Those facing a crisis now have an additional service to turn to in times of need.

Crisis Resolution Malta is a privately operated service consisting of an inter-disciplinary team of 12 professionals. The team includes emergency and mental health nurses, mental care professionals together with a doctor and lawyer. It is intended as a reference point for those going through a crisis and who require professional help.

Clients will be listened to, their cases assessed and acted upon. In urgent cases, it might be calling up an ambulance, in others setting up an appointment, founder Mark Xuereb, a psychologist, said.

Just as private hospitals supplemented Mater Dei Hospital, the new service would be providing for people who wanted a more personal service, he said. The team deals with people who might be contemplating suicide or harming themselves as well as those passing through a particularly hard time because of a situation, be it a change of a job or the loss of a loved one.

The network can be reached on 9933 9966 or via crisismalta@gmail.com.
