A cyclist in Canada who won a 100km bicycle race pedalled 650km to make it to the starting line and another 650km back.

31-year-old Kyle Messier spent three-and-a-half days pedalling through rural Quebec to make it to the Big Red Gravel Run, a 100km race on dirt roads.

He made it in time and even won the race. Once he was done, he had some celebratory pizza, got some sleep... and began the cycle back home.

Mr Messier has some experience with long-distance bike rides, having spent a year-and-a-half cycling around the mountains of South America.

Racing, however, is a new challenge for the bike mechanic.

"I was definitely happy. It couldn't have gone any better," he told The Record. "It was like, 'OK, cool.' I did what I came here to do."
