Well-known pianist Cynthia Turner will be joining the National Orchestra under the baton of its resident conductor, Michael Laus, at the Manoel Theatre in a performance of Francis Poulenc's Piano Concerto, composed in 1949.

The concert, on Wednesday at 7.30 p.m., will mark the end of this season's series of concerts held in collaboration between the Manoel Theatre and the National Orchestra.

The occasion will be an extra special one since Poulenc dedicated the concerto specifically to Cynthia Turner in December 1952, when she was still a student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, urging her to "Play it, play it everywhere, all over the world" - his parting words to her after going through the concerto in great detail, making sure it was played the way he wanted it.

Ms Turner's latest enterprise has been the launching of a CD, which includes the Poulenc Concerto, which she recorded with the Russian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Tkachenko, which will be for sale at the Manoel Theatre Shop while booking is open for the concert.

The programme also includes an orchestral performance of Brahms' Hungarian Dances, nos. 2, 4, 8 and 9, and Mozart's Posthorn Serenade K 320.

Reservations for the concert may be made from the Manoel Theatre booking office, tel. 2124 6389, fax 2123 7340, e-mail bookings@teatrumanoel.com.mt
