Luke Dimech is still keen on a move to British football despite his positive four-month spell with Birkirkara.

The 26-year-old Dimech, scorer of Malta's goal in the 2-1 defeat to Cyprus in Saturday's EURO 2004 Group One qualifier, signed for Birkirkara during the January transfer window after seeing out his contract with Irish Premier League side Shamrock Rovers.

"I intend to return to the UK at the end of this month to undergo trials with three or four clubs," Dimech told The Times yesterday.

Dimech has dual citizenship as he used to reside in England.

Although Dimech is hopeful of securing a contract abroad, he is not ruling out the possibility of staying in Malta.

FA Trophy winners Birkirkara are willing to offer him another contract after his valuable contribution to their Cup-winning campaigns.

Dimech's return to Maltese football last January was dogged by controversy as several clubs contested his eligibility to join a local club but the relative Malta FA boards ruled in his favour.

Last season, the Malta defender-cum-midfielder had a series of trials in England before he opted to join Shamrock.
