I have just seen Alistair Campbell’s article (‘Jeremy Hunt, one Europe”, April 17).

The people of Malta should understand that the so-called UK political elite think that the 17.4 million (52 per cent) of British people who voted to leave the European Union are uneducated morons who have been hoodwinked into giving their vote.

Nothing can be further from the truth. The fact is that the British people voted for a return of their sovereignty, which has been steadily eroded over the 46 years we have been members of this flawed political union with unaudited accounts and many unelected, well-paid, pensioned people on the European ‘gravy train’.

Before the correspondent accuses our politicians of lying to the people, he will explain how he authored the ‘September Dossier’, since renamed the ‘Dodgy Dossier’, which, in 2003, sent our brave soldiers to war in Iraq on the pretence that Iraq could attack us in 45 minutes with an arsenal of weapons of mass destruction. During the eight years of conflict many thousands of troops and civilians were killed. This must rank as the biggest lie ever told.

Perhaps Campbell might explain that rather than trying to overturn a democratic decision by our nation.
