Floriana have appointed former Valletta and Sliema Wanderers forward Danilo Doncic as their coach for next season, a club statement said yesterday.

Doncic, who failed to steer San Gwann away from relegation to Division Two last season, replaces Joe Grech whose services were not retained by the club despite still having one year left on his contract.

The statement added that Doncic will be responsible for the club's first team and will also be in charge of a new strategy aimed at strengthening the club's resources in the different age groups.

Floriana have opened negotiations with their players Trevor Cilia, Manolito Micallef, Christian Cassar and Christian Caruana as they seek to secure their future with the club.

It was also announced that Brazilian forward Wendell Gomes has been confirmed as one of the foreign players for 2007/08.

Bojan Spasojevic, the Serbian forward who was signed last January, has been released while a decision is yet to be taken on Congolese defender Riad-Mynel Gango-Rtsa, currently out of contract.

Floriana FC have also issued the list of committee officials following their annual general meeting.

Joe Cauchi is again president while the other officials are Dione Borg (secretary), Alex Cassar (treasurer), Mario Borg (vice-president) and John Borg (vice-president).

Meanwhile, during last weekend's annual general meeting defender Mario Caruana was voted as the club's player of the year for season 2006/07.

Spartans opt for Gerada

Newly-promoted side Hamrun Spartans will also have a new coach in 2007/08 after agreeing terms with Marco Gerada. The former St George's coach replaces Atanas Marinov who quit the club at the end of last season following the Spartans' promotion from Division One.

Hamrun have already started working on reinforcements for next season.

They are currently trying to sign two new foreign players to join Serb defender Branko Timotic who will be retained for another year.
