Czech Republic midfielder Kamil Dvorak yesterday informed Valletta FC that he was quitting the club with immediate effect to seek pastures new in his home country.

Dvorak, 24, was an instrumental figure for Valletta two seasons ago when the team won all six trophies at stake in the domestic scene. However, his contribution was less influential in 2001/2002 with Valletta failing to retain any of their honours and finishing out of the top three placings for the first time in many a season.

A Valletta spokesman said Dvorak will be leaving the islands today on his way to Prague. He is expected to join a Division Two team in the Czech league.

Striker Chris Oretan is now the only foreigner at Valletta even though the Citizens are expected to recruit another overseas player, preferably in midfield, to fill Dvorak's void. In fact, the club is waiting the arrival of two Nigerians and another one from Azerbaijan in the coming days for a trial.

Valletta, this season under the charge of new coach Dennis Fenech, were eliminated from the Intertoto Cup last month by Albania's KS Teuta. Their only signing was Malta international Daniel Bogdanovich while centre-half Darren Debono, who seemed unsettled at the club, will be signing a new contract by this weekend. Defender Jeffrey Chetcuti will be leaving for Sliema Wanderers after an eight-year stint with the Citizens.
