England's squad has been managing expectations in the run up to the World Cup as the young and rather unexperienced team prepares to face Tunisia in their opening game.

It seems, however, that they are now concerned about the effect the sun has been having on the players' ability to rest. The English team has set up camp at the Forrestmix Club Hotel outside Saint Petersburg, the competition's northernmost venue.

While blackout blinds have been fitted, reports suggest that the measures have not resolved the issue.

One might be forgiven for thinking that this is yet another attempt at managing expectations by lining up an excuse ahead of their first game. On the whole, Gareth Southgate has succeeded in keeping much of the pressure off the players and the British media has largely held back from being its usual highly critical self.

Nine players are set to make their World Cup debut in the Russian city of Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad) led by captain Harry Kane.
