Former Labour MP Evelyn Bonaci died at St Vincent De Paul Residence yesterday morning aged 92.

Mrs Bonaci was one of the founders of the party's women section, elected from the sixth district in 1966 and retaining her seat in Parliament for 10 years.

The Labour Party said it has lost a friend and respected member. Mrs Bonaci's ethics had always distinguished her work and she constantly defended the workers and their families, the party said.

The Nationalist Party said Ms Bonaci will moreover be remember as a philanthropist who has always thought about others and tried improving the lives of those around her.

She was married to the late Gigi and had five children: Tessie Castillo, Alfred, Winifred La Rosa, John and Nadya Cassar.

Her funeral leaves St Vincent De Paul Residence today at 2 p.m. for St Helen's Basilica, Birkirkara, where Mass will be said at 2.30 p.m.
