Recently the contractors who built that ponderous pile of apartments on St Ignatius Junction, Sliema, dug a trench along this street and half way down Old College Street towards Tower Road, to install electrical cables. This trench, along Old College Street, has been backfilled with rough concrete flush to, and in many places proud of, the existing asphalt surface of the road.

Can the contractors, developers, Project Architect or anyone from the Sliema Local Council responsible for such matters, advise how this trench is intended to be finished? Will the top several centimetres of concrete have to be dug up again to permit placement of the base course and wearing (asphalt) course of the road? Or is it the intention, as I suspect, to leave the trench as is, thus further increasing the shabbiness of the environment, which developers and contractors are being permitted to destroy with apparent impunity?
