For the first time locally, forum theatre techniques will be used to explore scenarios relating to the LGBTIQ community in Flourish From Oppression.

Organised by Drachma – an LGBTIQ group largely inspired by the Roman Catholic faith – the event will provide a safe, integrated space for like-minded individuals from both the LGBTIQ community and the public to delve into the intersections between sexuality, gender identity and religion.

The forum theatre technique was pioneered by Augusto Boal in order to promote the understanding of differing perspectives in a healthy, dynamic manner that involves merging the roles of performers and audiences, allowing participants to experiment with different conclusions to the stories.

Flourish From Oppression will take place from 9am to 6pm on Saturday at the Marsaxlokk youth activity centre, St Francis Street. To participate, send an e-mail to drachmalgbt@gmail.com or call 7925 3875. This project is supported by the Arts Council Malta – President’s Award for Creativity.
