Maltese football lost one of its stalwarts on Friday following the news of the death of Żaren Alamango, aged 83 years.

In a statement, Floriana FC heaped praise on the achievements of Alamango who won several domestic honours with the Greens.

"On behalf of Floriana FC we would like to express our deepest condolences to the Alamango Family for the loss of Zaren Alamango.

"A former player of the club in the great era's of 1950's and 1960's, Zaren Alamango graced the Green and White shirt for 14 seasons, playing 154 matches and scoring 27 goals.

"During this period of time, he also won 3 League Titles, 3 FA Trophies and other domestic cups, playing also for the Maltese National Team.

"Following his playing career, Zaren Alamango also served the club as a coach for the youth teams and the Floriana F.C Nursery.

"An inspiration for many and a great gentleman."
