I have been reading all the letters printed by the Times of Malta regarding the George Cross medal on our Maltese flag.
For a while I had thought that the controversy had finally died down. But I see it is still a hot issue. Therefore, please allow me to express my thoughts and feelings on the issue.
I have also been honoured with medals by a foreigner from a foreign country. I display them proudly on my formal attire every chance I get, regardless of their origin. An honour is an honour no matter where it comes from.
In Malta, we honour many saints, proudly. We display their image on flags, which we fly from our roofs and parade them through the streets. We also wear medals bearing their image. They are all foreign.
What is so different about the George Cross medal? A medal honouring us for valour?
So yes. Display it proudly on our country's most formal attire, our flag.
It's our heritage.
