Telecoms company GO said a technical team has been dispatched after several customers in central to southern areas faced broadband problems on Thursday.

Customers from areas like Mqabba, Safi, Żurrieq and Gudja reported problems with their service.

"Our technical team has been dispatched in full force to identify the root cause of the problem and to gather further information on the matter. This will allow us to identify the best course of action to get impacted customers reconnected in the shortest time possible," the company said in a Facebook post.

The telecoms company said it had no further details available, but we will be report further information as soon as possible.

"As a result, our contact centre is experiencing a higher influx of calls, so waiting time may be longer than usual. We apologise for the inconvenience."

The problem comes just a week after rival company Melita faced a cyber attack by criminals, leading to an interruption of services.
