Moviment Graffitti has expressed concerned at the way the ship-yards' privatisation is being managed.

In a statement, Moviment Graffitti said that from the attitude the government adopted towards the workers' representatives it seems it is not ready to enter into fruitful talks with the aim of safeguarding shipyards' workers and their families.

The government has kept insisting that the shipyards should be downsized, when it is not even known who will be the new owner of the company and how many workers it will need, the NGO said.

It added that it does not make any sense to offer retirement schemes to workers at this point in time when it is not known what will happen if they do not choose this scheme.

Graffitti said: "This is a serious lack of respect towards the workers, many of whom have worked at the shipyards for much of their lifetime, performing a difficult, and sometimes even dangerous work."
