If you're a smartphone user in Gozo, your mobile internet experience may have suddenly become a whole lot faster.

Vodafone Malta has switched on 4G+ for Malta's sister island, making Gozitans the first locals to enjoy download speeds up to 60 per cent faster than traditional 4G.

Customers with compatible phones have automatically been switched onto the 4G+ network, which provides download speeds of up to 210mbps. Using the accelerated network comes with no extra charges.

"This launch is also a showcase of investment and innovation in Gozo. It’s often mentioned that Gozo deserves more attention and investment – now the best comes to Gozo first," said Vodafone Malta's head of technology Sheila Kavanagh.

To celebrate the introduction of the new service, Vodafone is giving away 210 free SIM cards, each containing 1GB of data, to people visiting the company's stores at Arkadia in Victoria.
