Joe Grech's victory in Monday night's billiards final against St Joseph BC team-mate Alex Borg brought the curtains down on the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association 2002/03 season.

The final, played at Hamrun, saw the nine-times billiards champion Grech racing away to a 6-2 lead in the 100-up contest but then Borg, the snooker champion, staged a remarkable rally to win three frames in succession and reduce the gap to 6-5.

However, Grech was not to be denied. He regained composure soon after the 11th game to chalk up the point he required and claim the national billiards title with a 7-5 win.

Borg was figuring in his first ever final in the 'three-ball' game.

Frame scores (Grech first): 100-55, 100-19, 100-49, 17-100, 100-50, 36-100, 100-13, 100-18, 81-100, 31-100, 2-100, 100-47.
