An 18th century chapel in Gudja has been restored with the financial assistance of Bank of Valletta.

The Annunciation Chapel was commissioned in 1754 by Dun Gwann Barbara, who put up the money for its building with the support of locals. The church was blessed in April 1755. A belfry was added in 1912.

The chapel's stonework was in dire need of restoration and work was completed this year under the supervision of the Infrastructure Ministry's restoration division.

Speaking during the presentation of the sponsorship to Gudja parish priest Martin Cardona, BOV Zejtun branch manager Albert Pace said the bank had dedicated one of the seven pillars of its Community Programme to the promotion and preservation of the country's heritage.
