The GWU said today that it was holding the Malta Union of Bank Employees (MUBE) responsible for damages suffered by Bank of Valletta clerical workers after a court last week issued a warrant to stop talks for a collective agreement between the GWU and BOV.

The MUBE is contesting the trade union recognition granted by the bank to the GWU. The GWU already represented the non-clerical workers.

In a judicial protest this morning, the GWU  said recognition of trade union representations had been conferred to it by the bank after independent verification.

Indeed, the MUBE in its court action had not claimed, let alone proved to represent the majority of the workers.

The MUBE's action was frivolous and malicious and the GWU said it was keeping the MUBE responsible for damages.
