Ħamrun Spartans and Gżira fought out an entertaining goalless draw at the National Stadium.

The match turned out to be a hard-fought encounter with both sides going out for the three points but in the end the stalemate prevailed to preserve both sides' unbeaten start to the season.

It was the Spartans who threatened first after 24 minutes when Antonio Monticelli picked up a loose ball and served Njongo Priso who hit a a firm low drive that was parried away by Justin Haber in the Gżira goal.

The Maroons goalkeeper was at it again on 37 minutes when he somehow kept out Sebastian Nayar's inswinger.

Gżira came close four minutes from the break when Destin Mambouana saw his header finish just over the bar.

A minute later Andrew Cohen teed up Nikolai Muscat who hit a ferocious drive that came off the upright.

On the restart, Ħamrun came close when Massimo Ganci released Calil who hit a low drive that was again kept out by the alert Haber.

A minute from time, Haber again came to Hamrun's rescue when the former Malta goalkeeper produced a fine one-handed save to keep out Ganci's dipping shot.
