Hibernians have lodged a protest against the result of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Valletta at the National Stadium as they argue that referee Philip Farrugia committed a technical error.
Valletta won Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash 2-1 to join the Paolites at the top of the Premier League standings.
Hibernians have filed a complaint in front of the MFA’s Protest Board as they are contending that the referee blew his whistle to end the first half proceedings a few seconds before the two minutes allotted for stoppage time had passed.
When Farrugia ended the first half, the Hibernians players were on the verge of putting the Valletta defence on the backfoot with a swift counter attack but they could not finish the action as the referee ended proceedings.
Hibs are arguing that the referee’s decision to end the firs thalf before the full stoppage time was played goes against the Rules of the Game and was a technical error.
The MFA Protest Board will now convene on a date yet to be decided to analyse Hibernians’ complaint.
