A host of Premier League clubs have joined the hunt this week for the services of Jonathan Holland but his club Floriana have already made it clear that they have no intention of parting company with their sturdy midfielder who lodged a written request for a transfer move after a clash with coach Ziya Yildiz.

Holland, 25, is a Floriana club product following in the footsteps of his father, John, and other members of the Holland family who donned the Green shirt in the past.

Contacted yesterday, Holland said he had asked the club to release him from his contract, citing differences with Yildiz as his main reason to ask for a move.

"I've played for Floriana since I was kid and never thought about moving to another club before," he said.

"However, things are not the same this time around. It is clear to me that I have different views from the coach and that is making it difficult for me to focus on my play.

"The committee tried to settle the dispute but to no avail. I think it's better for both parties if I change club. It will be difficult for me, I know. I love Floriana and the fans but at this point I can't see myself playing again for them."

Holland, who made his debut for the senior team in 1994, did not play for Floriana in Sunday's opening Premiership match against Balzan Youths. The Greens won 5-1.

Earlier this month, Holland walked out on the team after he was omitted from the starting formation of a Carlsberg Tournament match against Hibs at Corradino.

Floriana president Dennis Burke said the club have just turned down an offer from Birkirkara who wanted Holland on a season's loan.

Marsaxlokk, Valletta and Hibs have also shown an interest but so far only Birkirkara had tabled a formal bid.

With the summer window coming to a close on Sunday, this will be a hectic few days for Holland, who looks determined to leave, and Floriana, definitely trying to hold on to their player till the end with limited options to choose from as replacement at these late stages of the transfer market.

"Holland is a key player in our squad. Transferring him will be a big blow to our aspirations," Burke said.

"Moreover, an adequate replacement will be difficult to find at this stage. Hamrun's Roderick Bajada could be one of the few options but his club are reluctant to let him go."

Meanwhile, another Floriana player seeking a move is Mark Galea. He played for Valletta a few years back and it seems like the nippy striker is looking for a return with the Citizens.

"Negotiations are still at a preliminary stage," Burke said.

"Here again, we do not intend to weaken our squad by letting a valid player move elsewhere. Valletta are showing interest in Galea but so far there was no definite decision even though time is running out fast."
