Horst Heese will stop being Malta coach when his contract expires in December.

Speculation has been raging lately over when Heese, in his second spell as national coach, will relinquish the post. Unofficial reports even claimed that the German might quit after the double challenge against Sweden, on Saturday, and Iceland, the following Wednesday.

Heese yesterday reiterated his intention to step aside when his contracts runs out in December.

"From the first day I accepted to return as national coach, the plan was to stay until the end of my contract in December. Nothing has changed," Heese said.

"I have been working closely with assistant coach Carmel Busuttil with a view to hand the job over to him after this World Cup qualifying campaign. This is essentially what was agreed upon with the MFA when Busuttil and I took over the national team," Heese said.

Although Heese will step down at the end of this year, he has offered to assist the Malta FA in future.

"If, after the end of my contract, the MFA ask me to help them in matters related to coaching courses, I will be more than willing to come over and offer my assistance," Heese said.
