As the momentum picks up in the DLT and crypto space, FinanceMalta will be hosting a morning seminar which will be discussing innovative technology arrangements and AML challenges. The breakfast seminar, which forms part of the BlockFinance series of educational seminars hosted by FinanceMalta, will be held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel, Attard on Wednesday, April 3. This seminar is sponsored by FTI Consulting Ltd.

Commenting on the latest seminar, FinanceMalta chairman Kenneth Farrugia said: “We are constantly making sure that the industry is up-to-date with all the latest advancements in fintech, including the challenges. One of these challenges is AML compliance obligations, which today remains high on the agenda in any discussion on financial services.”

The seminar will be moderated by one of the key experts in this industry, Max Ganado and will see the participation of several other industry professionals.

Dr Ganado will open the proceedings with a presentation about the landscape in the innovative technology arrangements, which will be followed by a presentation on ‘The FIAU regulations and its guidelines’ by Jonathan Phyall from the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU).

Diane Bugeja, Camilleri Preziosi Advocates, Mario Zerafa, Ganado Advocates and Joe Borg, WH Partners, will then discuss ‘The private sector challenges for VFA Agents, Issuers and Service Providers – Implementing and satisfying the FIAU requirements’.

The second part of the seminar will commence with a presentation by Christos Efthymiopoulos from the Malta Financial Services Authority, who will be giving his comments on the question: Do the three laws and the guidelines on blockchain do anything on the AML/CFT front and can they do more? A panel comprising Manfred Galdes from FFF Legal, Ian Abdilla from the Economic Crimes Unit, Jonathan Galea from the Blockchain Advisory and Federica Taccogna from FTI Consulting Ltd will discuss the positioning of institutions in Malta and challenges for the future.
