The law does not allow for the building of cemeteries for animals, Resources Minister George Pullicino said in reply to a parliamentary question, quoting council regulation 1069/2009
He explained that dead animals are considered as being animal by-products which need to be burnt.
The only way to develop a cemetery for animals is to have an incinerator, with the ashes then being buried.
An owner may bury a dead pet on his property as long as this is only occasional.
