A Libyan man who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his former wife Margaret Mifsud was this morning jailed for an additional three months for threatening a police inspector and the victim's mother on the day of the verdict.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud also fined Nizar El Gadi €5,000 and issued a protection order in favour of the inspector and the victim’s family.

Following a three-week trial by jury, Mr El Gadi last December pointed his fingers in the shape of a gun at Ms Mifsud and her family and then made a sign threatening he would chop off inspector Keith Arnaud's head, before telling him “you’re next” and blowing him a kiss.

Mr El Gadi, 36, had been sentenced to life in prison. Jurors found him guilty, by a count of 8-1, of the callous murder of the mother of his two children in 2012. Dr Mifsud was strangled in the early morning hours of April 19, 2012, her lifeless body found in her car in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.
