Despite promises made over the years by the St Paul’s Bay local council to tackle littering and the attempt by Clean Malta to improve the situation, things have actually become worse in Buġibba, Qawra and Xemxija, even though members of the local community often come together to organise various clean-up days.

To make matters worse, businesses have not yet grasped the idea of flat packing their cardboard boxes before they place them outside for collection.

Furthermore, junk mail is often left outside the doors of those apartments that do not have letterboxes or are simply left hanging out of letterboxes – which often end up on the pavement anyway.

Is it not about time that the relevant national authorities take this problem seriously and do what it takes to tackle it?
