The first boys' junior lyceum was set up in 1981, and celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of M.A. Vassalli Junior Lyceum in Tal-Handaq were concluded with a day of activities held on May 25 - the last to be held at the school before its expected transfer to a new building situated on the same grounds.

Mgr Lawrence Gatt, director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, together with ex-students who are now priests, started the day off with Mass, which was attended among others by President Edward Fenech Adami, Dr Philip Muscat, former Minister of Education, former heads of the school and Members of Parliament.

President Fenech Adami later unveiled a plaque and planted a sapling, and together with the distinguished guests, viewed exhibits set up in the school hall by the school's various subject departments. Commemorative tokens were distributed.

The school students took part in various other activities during the day, including sports events, art workshops, a car wash, hair dressing, PlayStation challenges, a nature walk, photographic competitions, as well as discussions among students of various schools, which also included a fire and rescue display and a pet show.

Archbishop Paul Cremona also visited the event.

The evening ended with a Lejla Maltija during which food prepared by staff, students, ex-students and parents was served, and leading singers and dancers, as well as talented students from the school, animated the evening.

All the activities' proceeds were donated to Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
