Lisa Camenzuli and Carol Cassar Torreggiani will be playing for gold in today's women's doubles final at the Marsa Sports Club after a comprehensive 6-2 6-0 win at the expense of San Marino pair M. Agarici and F. Guardigli yesterday.

The Maltese were totally focused on their objective yesterday as they set out to make further progress in the tournament.

On Wednesday, Camenzuli had booked her place in the semi-finals with an easy win over Agarici in the singles.

Camenzuli and Cassar Torreggiani gave their opponents little chance to settle down at the Marsa courts.

However, today their task will be more difficult when they face Luxembourg favourites Mandy Minelli and Claudine Schaul ousted Camenzuli from the singles tournament earlier in the day.

All-Luxembourg finals

Luxembourg's tennis players are in for a GSSE medal bonanza this weekend. Yesterday, four of their players reached the finals of the singles competition, guaranteeing the country two gold medals and two other silver in tomorrow's presentations ceremony.

Camenzuli, Malta's top female player at present, was one of the semi-finalists who failed to make it past the Luxembourg challenge yesterday.

She had to settle for a bronze medal, as a losing semi-finalist, after she was beaten by Schaul, the world no.120, 6-1 6-1. The latter will play against compatriot Minelli who beat Monaco's Nathalie Welker 6-0 6-0.

The men's singles finalists are Gilles Mueller and Mike Scheidweiler. Mueller eliminated Jirka Lokaj, of Liechtenstein, and Scheidweiler saw off Guillaume Couillard, of Monaco.
