The Promotion Cup for women will be played between today and Sunday at the Ta' Qali pavilion.

This evening's opening ceremony, at 7.30 p.m., will be preceded by two matches before the Maltese make their first appearance in the evening match against Wales, starting at 7.45 p.m.

Seven teams are taking part with the eventual winner earning promotion to Division B in a revamped competition next season.

Gibraltar, Moldova and Luxembourg play in Group A.

In Group B, Santino Coppa's Malta will be looking to book their place in Saturday's semi-finals by outwitting Wales, Scotland and GSSE rivals Andorra.

Bernard Vassallo will be among the group of international referees for the tournament.

Malta's other FIBA referee, Gordon Barbara, who qualified for his badge this summer, is currently in Portugal for the men's Division B U-20 championship.

3 p.m. Scotland vs Andorra; 5.15 p.m. Luxembourg vs Moldova; 7.30 p.m. Opening ceremony; 7.45 p.m. Malta vs Wales.
