Maltese talent recently featured among orchestral works by composers of various nationalities in a concert in the UK aimed at creating an awareness of such music.

Young composer Karl Fiorini premiered his piece Dances From The Forgotten City, 5th during the concert, which was entitled The Trill Of The Orchestra.

The concert was held at Lighthouse, the centre for the arts in Poole. It was conducted by Balbur Bronnimann and presented and organised by Alasdair Malloy in collaboration with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Mr Fiorini said conductor Bjorn Bantock had introduced him to Mr Malloy who was looking for a young, proficient composer who could highlight the different colours of the orchestra.

Mr Fiorini's next engagements are the premiere of his cello concerto with the Royal Academy of Music Orchestra in Copenhagen next May and a piano duo composition for pianist Aisa Ijiri in Kyoto City concert hall in August.

He will also be representing Malta in September during the 12th edition of the Youth Biennial for Arts from Europe and the Mediterranean with the composition Les Voix Oubliées, which will also be conducted by Mr Bantock.
