A song by Maltese duo Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg has been chosen to take part in the Belgian semi-finals of Eurosong 2006, the winner of which will represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest .

Earlier this year the Belgian broadcaster VRT launched an international search for entries and made their final selection after receiving 321 songs from artists and composers.

Beyond You, penned by the Maltese composer and author, will be performed by the popular Belgian artist Vanessa Chinitor who had already represented her country in 1999 with the song Like The Wind.

This marks a comeback for Ms Chinitor who took part in Eurosong for the first time seven years ago and won. Earlier this year she told Belgian media that she will only take part in the contest again if she finds the right song.

Her search has led her to a cooperative venture with Malta's very own Mr Vella and Mr Borg, who have already had three entries in the international contest.

The semi-finals will take place in Belgium over the coming months and three songs from each heat will be selected to move on to the final night in February, when the song representing Belgium in May's Eurovision will be chosen.
