Maltese photojournalist Darrin Zammit Lupi has been awarded the Refugee Festival honorary prize for long-term documentation.

Held annually, the Refugee Festival attempts to create an arena highlighting the plight of migrants and refugees.

Zammit Lupi was given the award “for his extraordinary relience and photo documentation with immense power.”

The judges said of Zammit Lupi’s pictures that they are “a witness to brutality and a testimony for the future”.

Supported by the Norwegian Arts Council and held at the House of Literature in Oslo, Norway, the festival’s organiser is Maltese-Norwegian Kristina Quintano.
