A 33-year-old man was this morning charged with slightly injuring a 16-year-old Dutch boy with a firearm yesterday morning. The boy has already left the island.

The incident happened in Pembroke just before 7am and the boy, who was hit by shotgun pellets, was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by the people who were accompanying him at the time. He told the police that the hunter slapped him in the face.

David Galea pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail against a deposit of €300 and a personal guarantee of €2,000.

He was charged with attacking and threatening the boy, slightly injuring him with a firearm due to negligence or in breach of regulations and with being a relapser.

Yanika Camilleri and Vincent Micallef appeared for the accused. Police Inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted.
