A man was grievously injured in a gas cylinder explosion in Valletta late on Friday.

The police said in a statement on Saturday morning that the explosion took place in the kitchen of an establishment on Ordinance Street.

Civil Protection Department officials and medical staff provided first aid.

The 44-year-old man from the capital was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.
