Manchester United are releasing goalkeepers Roy Carroll and Ricardo Lopez, the Premier League club said yesterday.

The pair were on a list of eight players, all bar Carroll reserves, being released by United that was posted on the club's official website.

Carroll, 27, who joined United for £2.5 million from Wigan in July 2001, played his last match for them in the FA Cup final in Cardiff on Saturday, a defeat on penalties to Arsenal.

Carroll and Tim Howard, who has just completed a second season at United, shared the goalkeeping duties for United in the season just ended. Carroll played in 26 of their 38 league matches.
