Mexicans jumping in jubilation over the surprise World Cup victory over Germany on Sunday shook the ground hard enough to set off Mexico's earthquake detectors.

Throngs danced and sang in the streets after their team bested the defending champions.

The Institute of Geological and Atmospheric Investigations said highly sensitive earthquake sensors registered tremors at two sites in the capital Mexico City seven seconds after the game's 35th minute, when star player Hirving Lozano scored a goal.

Fans on social media celebrated goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa's performance, one man telling Donald Trump that,

"Mexico already has a wall and his name is Guillermo Ochoa."

Mexico will face South Korea in its next game on Saturday in Rostov-on-Dov, Russia.
