Paul Mifsud (Senglea SC) recently reached another memorable milestone in his illustrious cuesport career when he won the Malta billiards championship for the 25th time.

Mifsud defeated Publius Grech, of La Valette BC, in the final lasting four hours and played at the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association centre in Rabat.

The opening two-hour session proved to be an almost equal affair with Mifsud taking a 250-point lead after the first 20 minutes with breaks of 97, 54, 66 and 89.

Grech executed a 79 just before the break for a first session score of 594-410 in 34 visits to the table, Mifsud chalking up a 17.47 average and his rival 12.05.

In the first hour of the second session, Mifsud hit his best patch of the game with breaks of 93, 74, 151 and 53 to which he added breaks of 85 and two 50s for a convincing 1,456-788 win, giving the Senglea SC veteran an advantage of 650 points.

He made 38 visits to the table for an average of 22.68 and a match average of 20.22.

Grech's overall average was 10.94. He had only one other break of 59 in the second session.

Emeric Ellul and Joe Debono were the officials for the final.
