Michael Mifsud has revealed that he is close to signing for a new club but dismissed persistent rumours that he is on the verge of making a return to Maltese football with Valletta.

“At present, I can only say that I’m considering offers from a host of overseas clubs,” he told timesofmalta.com.

“I expect to resolve my future in the next few days but I want to stress that there is no truth in reports that I am close to signing for Valletta. My aim is to continue my professional career abroad and there has been no shortage of interest from overseas clubs.

“At this stage of my career, I have no intention of returning to Maltese football.”

Mifsud, 28, is a free player after his contract with Coventry City expired at the end of last season. The nippy striker, scorer of an excellent brace in Malta’s 2-0 friendly win over Georgia on Wednesday night, spent the second half of last season with Barnsley.
