A two-hour video documentary was launched by Premier League club Birkirkara FC yesterday.

The documentary, produced by Claude Cassar with the assistance of his father Victor, is a bold attempt to narrate the defining moments in the club's history.

The footage is enhanced by interviews with leading protagonists in Bir-kirkara's recent history, most notably chairman Zammit, former president Joe Gauci, coach Stephen Azzopardi, players and other officials.

"A year after the publication of the history of Birkirkara FC by Carmelo Borg, we now boast a compelling video documentary about the club's important milestones" Zammit said at the documentary's launching at the Qawra Palace Hotel.

"It has taken me four long months to complete this documentary but I am very satisfied with the final product," Cassar said.

"My vision for this production was to capture the commitment of our players which, on many occasions, lacks appreciation from the public," he added.

The launching of the video documentary, selling at Lm7, could not have been better timed as Birkirkara are top of the Premier League with a five-point lead on Hibernians and Sliema.

Birkirkara's positive impact so far has been credited to their strength-in-depth after some shrewd forays into the transfer market over the past few seasons.

Zammit confirmed reports that the club will be signing Nigerian Precious Monye as their third foreign player when the transfer window opens next month. Monye will replace fellow Nigerian Sunday Eboh.

"We have agreed a one-and-a-half year deal with Monye," Zammit said.

"According to the terms of the contract, he will be allowed to leave Birkirkara next summer if a foreign club requests his services.

"It was not easy to reach an agreement with Monye as his demands were quite high. Suffice to say that Monye, who has played 23 times for Nigeria, was earning a basic annual salary of around Lm36,000 with Hungarian club Videoton. However, the will of all parties involved in the discussions led to a deal," Zammit added.

According to Zammit, Bir-kirkara had approached Hamrun Spartans for goalkeeper Ivan Casha but the latter has opted to join Marsaxlokk.

Birkirkara are still seeking to increase their goalkeeping options and Martin Pace, of Zebbug Rangers, could be the subject of a bid by the Premier League leaders after he caught the eye of coach Azzopardi.

Asked to comment on rumours of a possible move for striker Michael Mifsud, who has reportedly decided to rejoin Sliema Wanderers, Zammit said that any club would be interested in taking a player of Mifsud's calibre.

However, Zammit was quick to stress that Birkirkara did not plan to bring in new signings other than Monye.
