Mtarfa FC will play in the Malta FA Division Three league next season after the application of Ta' Xbiex was turned down during last week's council meeting at Ta' Qali.

Mtarfa, thus, will become the fourth team from a close north-western part of the island to play in the MFA league after Rabat Ajax, Dingli Swallows and Mdina Knights.

Ta' Xbiex's application was rejected with their repeated lacklustre performances for the past few years being the main reason behind the delegates' decision.

Meanwhile, another application to play in Division Three next season, by Swieqi FC, was turned down while that of Sta Lucija, who finished one place ahead of Ta' Xbiex in the final standings, was accepted.

The 2007/08 Division Three will comprise two sections - one with ten teams and the other nine. Both sections play two rounds with the winner in each group getting promoted.

Play-offs will be needed to determine the third team in Division Two.
